I'm here to tell you that yes, it is possible especially if you want to be hypnotized and believe that it will help you because it will if you allow it to. Just like any healing modality...yoga, ecstatic dance, meditation, ect. These practices allow us to get in touch with our inner selves for personal growth.
To demystify the process, I'll explain it a little more. It's really quite a natural occurance. For example, have you ever been driving down the freeway and realized that you had missed your exit because you were, "zoning out"? This is entering a mild state of hypnosis because you were engaging in a task where your concentration is focused on the road yet driving on the freeway does not require the same amount of alertness as driving in the city does, so consequently, your brainwaves slow down.
The movement of your car and the steady lines ahead act as the catalyst that lets you go into a state of hypnosis even if you didn't particularly want to at that time because you were trying to get somewhere in your car.
Reading a book or watching a film can also take you into a state of hypnosis, but be careful what kind of state of mind or emotion that you want to enter into. I get drawn into watching tv crime shows (Criminal Minds, Dexter, CSI, The Mentalist) because I like the "fear rush" that I get from the suspense, but too much of this can lead to paranoia or sleeplessness. So, it's important to be able to detach. If I get "freaked out" by say watching one of these programs, I will counteract this fear by doing some self hypnosis. Here is a demonstration.
First, I begin by taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly.
Next, I center my mind with a reassuring thought...
"this is only a dramatized fictional tv show"
Then, I begin to count down from 10 to I either in my mind or out loud.
With each number, I say something soothing to myself...words that I know will cause me to relax...
"10....I feel myself surrounded by a glowing light of warmth and goodness"
9....this light protects me and loves me unconditionally"
8...I am able to relax in this bed of softness that comforts me and keeps me safe
7...I release all fear from my body, mind and spirit
6...I release all my worries and cares to the universe(god) for it will solve any problems or issues that I have
5...I feel it all drift away far off into the distance
4...I am falling asleep easily and effortlessly
3...everything is peaceful and tranquil
2...my body, from the top of my head all the way down to the tips of my toes is drifting into a state of bliss.
1...sleep finds me, all is well.
