The Six Elements Of A Meaningful Life

I really enjoy reading Deepak Chopra's books after having seen him speak back in the 1990's. Currently, I have found a fascinating one on the afterlife and reincarnation. It's called, Life After Death:The Burden of Proof. My continuing curiosity with what happens after we die and my study of past life hypnosis led me to want to read this book.

In one section, he describes Karma. What I found was that karma is observed by spiritually maturity, according to Chopra. He states that, "in spiritual terms we can observe the difference between someone who is mature-and by implication has paid off some (karmic) debt-and someone who is immature, loaded down with unpaid debts."(p. 74)

The spiritually mature person pursues a meaningful life through the following:

Self-Worth: Belief that, I matter in the divine plan, I am unique in the universe.
Love: I am deeply cared for and care for others deeply.
Truth: I can see past illusions and distractions.
Appreciation and Gratitude: I cherish the fits of creation.
Nonviolence: I respect life in all its forms.

If you reverse each one of these above elements to its opposite, you will demonstrate the hidden side of karmic debt. Chopra goes on to say that,"when you are free of them, your life becomes fulfilled and deeply worth living."(p. 74)

Existence and Consciousness

"Our presence in life is marked by two fundamental, irreplaceable factors: existence and consciousness. Our spirit is that which exists. Our consciousness is that which allows us to be aware that we exist. Life requires both. Life's purpose, at its most basic, is the maintenance, nurturing and growth of our existence and consciousness. Lack of attention to this purpose will cause atrophy and perhaps eventual loss."-Mary Lee LaBay

Today I made a little trip to my local library. I discovered this amazing book where I found this interesting quote that I wanted to share with you. The book is called Hypnotherapy:A Client Centered Approach by Mary Lee LaBay.

My hypnotherapy classes start in eight days and so being a conscientious student, I thought I would prepare for classes with a little background knowledge.

So, what does this quote mean? Let's analyze and think about it. We, as humans.......EXIST. We are "spirits living in the material world" as the musician Sting would hum.

We each have a CONSCIOUSNESS, an awareness that we do indeed exist and are here on this planet at this time, breathing the air around us, reading this blog, sipping this water(or tea, perhaps coffee) with a light dimly lit next to our computer or maybe kids and pets making lots of noise in the room.

Anyhow, according to LaBay, each of these two "irreplaceable factors" as she calls them need to be nurtured and loved.....cared for, respected, and seen.

I agree with this statement regardless of whether there may be more than only two factors to our presence. Now, why I posted it is because it gives me more reason and responsibility to take this journey into hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I feel a purpose. There are many people to serve, to help and assist on their respective adventures toward self actualization and growth of the consciousness of our existence, towards healing and recovery.

Now, our existence may be easily recognized and felt. However, our consciousness has many levels.......depths, states, beings. These are intriguing to me. I look forward to delving into the ethereal realms of the mind and how it is connected with the spirit forming the mind-body connection.

Thanks for taking this trip with me. I hope you enjoy what you learn along the way as much as I do. What does existence and consciousness mean to you?

A Hypnotist's Blog

Welcome to my journey into becoming a hypnotherapist and learning all about this amazing healing modality. I begin classes this month and look forward to becoming a certified hypnotherapist by next spring. I've very excited about it! This blog will entail my many experiences as I journey, study and practice to become a professional clinical hypnotherapist.

I was first introduced to hypnotism at the ripe age of 18, when I was seeking something to relieve my stress and help to focus on improving my swimming ability as I had just moved to southern California and joined a community college swim team. I utilized guided self hypnosis tapes to assist my practices and greatly aided in increasing my skill level. Our 400 free relay team took sixth place in the State of California that year. Ever since, I've been intrigued by the incredible power of hypnosis and how it can help people focus on both achieving what they want and bringing about psychological and emotional growth. After many years of teaching in Asia after going back to grad school I felt a pull this time toward revisiting hypnosis and hypnotherapy in a professional manner to become a clinical hypnotherapist.

Therefore, I've recently started a metaphysical website chock full of helpful and interesting articles for you to explore. I'm continually developing it and watching it take shape and expand. Feel free to visit it here:

I'm also a member of hypnothoughts.com. Please visit my page and add me as a friend if you are a like minded soul also taking this wondrous voyage.
